Micro-computed tomography (micro-CT) is an advanced and non-destructive imaging method that visualie the internal structure of objects in a three-dimensional manner similar to clinical CT scanning, but on a smaller scale and with very high resolution. Researchers can understand the functioning of complex structures in the body of living organisms such as mammals by imaging them and analyzing the obtained results.

How the cat knows what it’s smelling, discovering the secret to complex function of the cat’s nose structure using micro-CT

According to a study published on Thursday, June 29, 2023 in PLOS Computational Biology, Ohio State University, researchers have created a three-dimensional computer model based on micro-CT scans of a cat's head and identification of tissue types throughout the nasal cavity and simulated how an inhalation of air containing common cat food odors would flow through the coiled structures.
